my title is not a metaphor.
our fire alarm was burning itself therefore setting off the awful loud alarm. there were sparks seen at the box with contained the live, earth, and neutral wire. it was not the simple battery operated alarm.
so...
we had to call an electrician at 12am. and they charge 90quid an hour. there wasn't much of a choice. prior to that, we tried dismantling it just to find out that it was wired to a live wire. we plugged off the speaker, the magnet thing with black sugar paper, i pulled out one battery, which was attached, and the plastic caps were destroyed with a hammer. which brought us to calling an electrician. we were not going to take the risk of have the irony of our fire alarm burning down the house.
so the man came. all he did was unscrewed the alarm off. that's about it. poof 90 quid.
it would another 30quid to replace the alarm plus 80quid installation. fuck!
